We aim to support around 1000 school children and young adults yearly. Unlike many larger charities our costs are minimal and we distribute approximately 97% of donation received
MISSION & HISTORY.
We are a registered charity (No. 327720) formalised by Constitution in 1988 to carry on work started in the 1960's by Fr Albert Nevett SJ, from Earl Shilton, Leicestershire. He spent over 60 years in India and was determined to help some of the extremely poor and disadvantaged families. He realised that education could provide a long-term solution...

The Fund aims to support around 1000 school children and young adults
every year. As a small charity our costs are minimal, and we distribute over 97% of donations received.
Our founder believed that the "gift of education could help children rise above their circumstances and thereby find employment; putting them in a position to help themselves, their families and future generations".
CURRENT PROJECTS.
We are currently supporting several projects in Tamil Nadu (Southern India) and in Darjeeling Province (Northern India). Our work in Tamil Nadu involves making small grants to students to pay for items such as uniforms, textbooks etc. We also run a student sponsorship scheme for children living in hostels attached to their very rural schools.
The work in Darjeeling Province is based on an infant school in Matigara
attached to a hospital, mainly for those suffering with leprosy, TB and AIDS.We pay all the running costs for the school, which is called Jisu Niketan. It currently has 297 pupils.
We are also paying for evening coaching classes for the children of families formerly employed in the famous Darjeeling Tea Gardens, many of which have been abandoned. We have also provided classroom furniture to a new school in the foothills of the Himalaya mountains and Covid 19 food relief to students’ families.
